Her price range is about 17k and under and preferably she wants something new. Told her to look at Mazda 2, maybe used 3. "Ehhh" she says...Howabout a Fiesta, great all around car. She even drove one and liked it yet said she can't see herself driving a Ford. -___- ... Kia Forte?. "No Kias!" she arbitrarily says. Honda Fit?? "Don't like the interior bits." She's now looking at Versas for some reason. I dunno guys, am I missing something here? Anything else I could possibly suggest to sway her before she inevitably starts looking at Corollas?

sounds like she has already decided and just wanted you to confirm her choice .

While beige as fuck, Corollas aren't that bad. She's just going on looks and brand-recognition. She'd probably find a way of shitting on Hyundais, and they've come a long bloody way since the Pony.
Look at it this way, if she ignores any and all advice about cars, buys something based on looks, and then has a nasty case of Buyer's Remorse, you can always say "I told you so".
Depending on your friendship level, you _may_ want to use your 'inside voice'.

The thing is every other day she shows me a pic of a different car and asks what I think. Last week it was Velosters, yesterday was a Fiat 500, so she's kinda all over the map on this one.

I agree Corollas aren't bad, but she says she wants something "different", something that stands out a little bit. To which I say, used is the way to go.

oooh, that's even worse...good luck .

If you're in a place that gets winter, push her towards a Scooby or Mitsu - same 'hip' cachet (unless I'm getting old and missed out on it being declared unhip or whatever), and decent fuel mileage, not to mention AWD.

SoCal so noope. Tho a nice used WRX could be an appealing option, thanks.

Lmao love it. Looks like something I'd definitely be into but maybe not for her. Meh I'll send her the link anyway.

She want's something that stands out, right? Well, nothing will stand out more than a bright blue 67 Morris Minor Traveler woody. If she's not feeling that, the 64 Checker Marathon sedan a few listing below should do the trick.

"All the new cars I can afford seem so blah. If my car-guy friend is such hot shit he'll know how to get me a great deal on a secret exciting model that regular people don't know about."
Scion xB. Best of luck.

She could get a new Fiat, but they're gutless unless you get a manual. Fiesta seems like a good choice too. Seems like she may be too picky for the new cars in that price range. Maybe she could get something used?

Nothing wrong with a Veloster or a 500. Lots of style for little coin. Not really all over the map — they're both cheap and quirky.

Well there you go! Good luck on pushing that - I can't imagine why she can't "see herself driving a Ford", so do keep us in the loop as to how she manages to push this suggestion off!

Don't forget your Audis and BMWs!

chill your shit down. corollas are great cars. instead of teaching her what good cars are according to the fanboy forums why don't you help her pick what she wants, then help her seal the deal

Try the Fiat 500 and the CR-Z. And get her to drive the Mazda 2!

I'm trying!

I love how when anyone references how much Hyundia has improved, the pony is always mentioned. Bet you didn't know that was the best selling car in Canada.

Chevy Sonic?

When anyone asks me to suggest cars this is what they actually mean.

Why not a Yaris? I drove a 2013 for a rental and it was pretty fun to drive and I like the way the look. Carollas, Matrices and such will be above that 17k. Seriously though, make her test drive a Soul.

Avoid a new Versa. This one was less than a year old and only had 10k miles on the odometer.
It's either a broken fuel pump or a bad ECU. Don't know which one yet because it happened on a Friday evening and the shop won't open till 9 am Monday.
Try as hard as you can to convince her to get a Mazda2 or a Fiesta, as so long as she's getting the manual version. The auto tranny in the Fiesta feels like it's about to break even when it's brand new.

17K for a new car, easy......05 Corvette of course :)

Just buy her a Miata and call it a day.

Oh, we had one! First year they came out too. And I still get the ipression (mostly from older folks, for what it's worth).
My sister had a Scoupe a few years back, and for what it was, it was a fantastic car!
Not that it really needs saying though - best-selling isn't always the best.

She said no to both a Mazda2 and Mazda3.
Then follows it up with negative reactions to the Fiesta, Fit, and Forte.
Why is she still your friend?

i would say "well apparently you like boring so you should get a corolla. it fits your personality so well. it stands out... at least untill everybody has the same one as yours"
the leave and never give her car advice again.

It's all fun and games until you need new tires.

My sister has a 07 Corolla bought new. It fried the ECU in the first year she had it, interior bits are falling off and it's just not really good at anything, including reliability.
